You’ve been waiting a long time for this Silberheim artwork: Crates full of Greenhides

The legendary crates full of Green Skins have finally been illustrated. Learn more here and marvel at the new artwork!

Hundreds, even thousands, of playing cards - which we call “fragments” - currently exist for Silberheim Evolving Card Game. Some of them are particularly popular. However, none of these fragments can hold a candle to the one true, most legendary of the legendary, most famous and infamous of the famous and infamous! We’re talking, of course, about the “Crates full of Greenhides” card, commonly known as the Goblinbox. Now, this very card has finally received its own proper, hand-drawn illustration. With this, we’re taking the next step into an era in which we, of all people, want to resist the spread of image-generating AI. It’s time to take a closer look, dear souls!

An Illustration by Nikos Gaitanopoulos

So we won’t beat around the bush any longer and will finally show you the long-awaited illustration. The artwork was created by Nikos Gaitanopoulos. You, dear souls of Silberheim, got your first glimpse of this work on Sunday, July 12 - if you decided to join our Discord meetup. The theme of that meetup was all about the Skuhuks, or the goblins of Isdraia. In addition to the premiere of “Crates full of Greenhides,” you also helped create a new bot deck there. With a little luck, you’ll find it very soon - or maybe even right now - in Silberheim Evolving Card Game, and you can even trade for it in the shop using the Flux you’ve earned!

But let’s get back to the art of drawing instead of the art of deckbuilding. Nikos really went all out with his artwork. In the soft glow of the lingering darkening, towers sway and teeter. But these aren’t just any towers. Oh no! They’re towers made of crates - and they’re full of Greenhides. “Pzzzt,” hisses the goblin from the Borklin tribe on the left, peering out of his crate with a sly look. His warning isn’t just for us - it’s also for the goblin in the foreground. As a closer look quickly reveals, this goblin belongs to the One-Ear tribe. In fact, the reason for his seemingly stunted ear is that he cut it off himself. Just as it should be for One-Ears. Well, anyway. The goblins wait with bated breath for something. They’re waiting for the right moment to launch their raid…

Groundbreaking news: One-Ear goblins have only one ear.

And so our Crates full of Greenhides join the ranks of the cards that could finally be adorned with real art. As you may have read in the past in this post about our approach to image-generating AI, we’re working full steam ahead to replace all AI placeholders with handcrafted artwork by the time Silberheim ECG is released on Steam. So we thought we’d take this post as an opportunity to give you a quick update on this topic. Last time, we reported on 152 illustrations, but since then, over 50 more have been added and more than 80 have been commissioned - all within a period of “just” three months, mind you. Goodbye forever, you boring AI placeholders!

Silberheim Evolving Goblin Game

Now that we’ve clarified the artistic aspect of the Crates full of Greenhides, it’s time to look at the fragment in its role as a playing card. What we will NOT be doing here is discussing defense and attack values, battle morale costs, or combat position generation. On the one hand, this would - as has so often been the case in the past - lead to a heated discussion, possibly even accompanied by a few torches and pitchforks (Felix has, rather meanly, made targeted - and at times even specifically personal - nerfs to the card on more than one occasion). On the other hand, only ongoing balancing will show where and when the Fragment will settle into its final form. So let’s just stick with the active ability that the Crates full of Greenhides come with.

The fragment of fragments!

The card description reads: “Use 3 food and create a goblin of the One-Ears (2/1) in your combat row.” Food is one of the secondary resources that exist in Silberheim ECG. You might be familiar with “mana” from other card games. But in our game, it has to have a much more complicated name. After all, we have to take advantage of the fact that language allows for unnecessarily long words. And so we call this stuff battle morale. This is, in a sense, the primary resource. It’s used to play cards. Sometimes you can also do other things with it - things that are fun for you but less so for your opponent. With secondary resources, like food, you can summon goblins, for example, as many as Crates full of Greenhides allow. It’s pretty clear right away where this whole process is headed. The goblins’ fighting style is all about quantity over quality. With their sheer numbers, they overrun everyone and everything. It’s hardly surprising, then, that the goblins - of all factions - were able to secure victory in the recent faction battle during the beta. It’s also worth noting that the Crates full of Greenhides are part of the offensive expansions. These are positioned in the defensive row of the battlefield. You can’t attack from here - but that’s not what the crates are meant to do anyway. Instead, they serve as a mass production line for battle-hungry Skuhuks, who take care of the attacking. Pretty handy, I’d say.

In addition to the defense and combat row, Silberheim ECG also has the supply row.

If you’re sadly realizing that you don’t yet have any Crates full of Greenhides that can mass-produce rowdy goblins for successful attacks and assassinations, there’s hope. As long as the beta is still playable (unpleasant spoiler: the end is in sight), you’ll find the fragment in certain goblin decks available at a certain shop.

The Epic “Goblinbox”: The Story of the Crates full of Greenhides

An article about the Crates full of Greenhides wouldn’t be an article about the Crates full of Greenhides if we didn’t address the elephant - or rather, the Modder’tzhiam - in the room. Because, as we explained at the beginning of this post, the Crates full of Greenhides aren’t just any fragment. They are THE most legendary fragment! So let’s take a little trip back in time and reflect on the origins of what we now know as the “Goblinbox.” This one’s for you, adventurers! Once upon a time, there was an alpha test for Silberheim ECG. Back then, the “my area” - or account - here on the Silberheim website looked a little different. There was no interactive map. There were no achievements to unlock. But even back then, there were already posts that were only available if dear souls created an account and logged in. And so we’re digging deep into the archives of days gone by and bringing something back to life…

Double standards exposed! Investigative reporting reveals the shocking truth about the Goblinbox War

Summer, 2025. The alpha testing phase for ECG Silberheim has been underway for a little over two weeks. A conflict has already begun to brew among the test players. It centers on the fragment “Crates full of Greenhides,” colloquially known as the “Goblinbox.” Some hate it, others love it. But what our latest investigative findings have now revealed is shaking all of Silberheim to its core. Right now, Silberheim testers on Discord can’t seem to avoid the hashtag #TDGB (german abbreviation for “Death to the Goblinbox”). A group of five Grain Warriors has made it their mission to declare war on the Goblinbox - including Beyond Worlds CEO and Silberheim head Felix Nyenhuis. In an interview, he says, “I joined back then out of solidarity with the birthday boy of the TDGB movement.” It’s easy to figure out who he means by “birthday boy”: Weizenoverlord (Panthetom), the leader and most powerful propagandist among the TDGB followers. His most dangerous opponent: Germarc, a champion of #HDGB (german abbreviation for “Hail to the Goblinbox”). Having long been a lone fighter, Germarc must constantly fight anew to legitimize his favorite card. But a shocking commonality unites the two adversaries: hypocrisy (wink). For, as our latest research reveals, the facts and figures tell a different story than the propaganda spewed by the two opponents.

Which side would you join?

Over the past nine days, only one player has managed to destroy the Goblinbox as an opponent’s card. Anyone who assumes that only a true TDGB supporter could be capable of such a cruel act is wrong. The one who stabbed the Goblinbox in the back was none other than HDGB advocate Germarc himself! But this discovery is by no means the most shocking one. While Germarc only destroyed his beloved Goblinbox to secure victory, the situation is different for his TDGB arch-rival: The number-one Goblinbox player is anti-green-skinned propagandist Weizenoverlord (Panthetom). Not only has he played the Goblinbox more often than anyone else – no - the card is in his deck 82% of the time when he plays a match. Whenever a Goblinbox is played in Silberheim, there’s a nearly 50% chance that this move comes from the TDGB leader himself. That means nearly every other Goblinbox is played by the very man who, at the same time, wants to be their greatest adversary on Discord. We are deeply shocked! Following this revelation, difficult times likely lie ahead for the TDGB movement: questions of trust and distrust, a re-examination of one’s own values and convictions, conflicts, worries, and perhaps even anger. But even in these dark times, there may be a glimmer of hope. As Germarc already wrote on June 10, this hope may lie in the realization “that the Goblinbox unites us all and brings us together.” (Wink)

Back to the present. It was a shocking plot that set the box rolling. The man - whose name is now Wz’en -insidiously planned a major coup. But we caught on to him a little too early, and his grand scheme was exposed. He promptly switched sides, and #HDGB united the quarreling parties through their shared passion. This also marked the beginning of the colloquial term “Goblinbox” becoming more than just a casual nickname. You’ll now find the former #TDGB advocate among the ranks of our valued Helping Hands, and he has also launched the “GoblinboxTV” project together with other kindred souls from Silberheim. And while we’re not quite keeping up with our own standards for producing content for you, a fan project is growing there that’s dedicated body and soul to bringing Silberheim closer to you. We look upon this group with great gratitude and can only recommend that you pay them a visit.
